RIVER VALLEY TRAIL BLAZERS snowmombile club is a northern Scott County club in Minnesota. We meet the second Wednesday of each month in the Presidents Room on the third floor of Canterbury Park in Shakopee at 7:30 PM.
As part of Scott County Snotrails we help maintain over 200 miles of trails in Scott county. We maintain a 'Park and Ride' for snowmobilers in the northwest corner of the Canterbury Park parking lot. Look for our club sign! We meet all year, and have activities all year.
We have several snowmobile trips and weekly local rides scheduled this year. We also have summer, fall and winter picnics, and a summer camping trip. Many of us also enjoy ATVs and dirt bikes.
We are primarily a Shakopee, Jordan, and Northern Scott County snowmobile club, but have many members from surounding south west metro area. We are a 100% MNUSA club.

Next Meeting
The next meeting is on Wednesday January 11, 2012 7:30 pm in the Presidential Suite (3rd Level) at Canterbury Park. Big thanks for all of the enthusiasm at the December meeting! We had many faces we haven’t seen in a while as well as some new. Best of all we completed a productive meeting in less than 40 minutes and were able to socialize beyond that.
Over the last few months we have also had a lot of help from new members and old, stepping up to the plate volunteering time for booths and projects. Thanks to all of you for your time.
Come on in and help plan some club trips. There has been interest in going both to the North Shore as well as northern Wisconsin on some “quick turn” weekend trips or even a “play hooky” day from work. Gary Schetll and Steve Blake have been instigators of these trips although Gary is the one who put on the miles with around 120 for the season. There are pictures on face book from Gary’s trip to view for you. Get in here and let’s figure something out !!!
This month’s Raffle Winners- Alan Landwell from Chaska and Bob Kimpton from New Prague. Thanks for helping to sell 70 calendars this year. Watch the Mnusa website at the first of each month for posting of winners.

OLD BUSINESS
Website update: Is ready and should be launched here shortly- Dave H update.
Trail Intersection signs- The new intersection signs are completed and ready to be put out on the trails by those of you that have trails with intersections. You may contact Chuck or Kim to find out what you need to know about how they are to be installed. If you need help getting this accomplished CALL for assistance NOW. We have a lot of time and money invested in this very useful project and we do not want to see them sitting in a box at Kims all winter. Please do your best to have them in this weekend if at all possible being that there is still very little frost in the ground at this time and the season has already begun. Everything you will need to get this done is at Kims shed. Thanks in advance.
NEW BUSINESS
Club Apparel: Sandy ordered some new stuff last month. Check it out; she’ll be bringing samples for you as she did in December. If you want to purchase any- contact Sandy and she will bring specific stuff to the meeting.
Prices are:
Short Sleeve t-shirts (Adult sizes Vegas Gold and Yellow)- $10.00/each
NEW Short Sleeve t-shirts (Kid sizes Safety Green and Orange)- $10.00/each
Long Sleeve Mock Knit Turtleneck Embroidered (Adult sizes White and Black)- $20.00/each
Sweatshirts (Adult sizes Grey)- BLOW OUT SALE- $20.00/each
Baseball Hats- $10.00/each (Black, Blue, Green, Tan and Red)
Jacket’s- $70.00 (must be ordered)
How about considering a new RVTB club sticker???? “Proud member of the RVTB snowmobile club”
2012 New Tucker Groomer- Should be arriving by middle of Jan. Contact Chuck Picka if you are interested in getting involved with the grooming responsibilities. His phone number is at the top of the newsletter.
RVTB Tent purchase- Based on our last meeting discussion on owning our own tent, Tim P. looked in to getting a tent price. We could use our own tent for many events including the Meet and Greet. Here’s what he found… A 10' X 10' w/ 4 side walls and a "name banner". Sam's club has them in stock. All for a mere $199.98 plus tax. The material is top of the line compared to their typical $100 models.
The one bad thing is that it is white and will show dirt. (Shouldn’t need to worry if things are going our way!) We will be voting on this at this meeting, so show your support and come vote!!
Cities Edge (Shakopee) Winter Open House- Thanks to Kyle and friends for getting down to Cities Edge for the Mnusa Dealer Open House on December 17th. Not many people coming thru at that time but they were able to get thru to a few snowmobilers. Thanks also to our other club members for taking time and stopping by. Cities Edge is a strong supporter of our sport. Consider supporting them.
CLUB TRIPS/GET TOGETHERS
Moose Lake Club Trip- Jerry Kastner has offered to set up a club trip that is scheduled for Feb. 17-19 at the AmericInn in Moose Lake, MN. Many of you should be familiar with the trails in this area because this is about 15 miles south of where we used to stay in Carlton on our trip a few years ago. It has always been a favorite because of its easy access from the freeway. It is only about 2 hours north of the cities and there are many trails to choose from for your entire family’s riding ability. More info at the meeting from Jerry.
Breakfast anyone-The Saturday after the meeting is now “RVTB Breakfast day”. You are always welcome to call for more info. We’ll decide at the meeting where to go for this month. If anyone would like to throw together a time and place in our RVTB area we would be happy to hook up and meet there as well. Let Chuck know of your ideas. We have had great turnouts, so let’s continue the “Breakfast Club”. Anybody is welcome, family, kids and also future snowmobile club members.
Dec. 31st New Year’s Eve Ride- Sandy did throw together, at the last minute, a small pot luck New Year’s party at our house due to lack of snow. Thanks to the few that stopped by and watched “vintage snowmobile” movies and club trip slide shows with us. We all got a good laugh out of it.
Jan. 21st Meet and Greet:-Thank you Tim P for stepping up to take on this project. We will meet at 9:00 am at the Louisville Swamp Park and Ride. Hot Chocolate, Cider, Hot Dots, Chips and Cookies will be served from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Tim has info on the tent and has gotten the giveaway items ready. Sandy will be picking up the food and plans on contacting the City of Shakopee, Paper and State Reps. Kim will bring the NEW groomer. Steve Rasmussen doesn’t know yet, but he’ll be making some signs for us like he did last year and also the turkey fryer. Right Steve? Dave Wolf has the generator and sled ready to go for hauling things out there.
Feb. 2-4- Savage Club Trip at Lake Woods Resort Cable Social Friday night at 6:30 in the main lodge & this will include a Pizza & Taco Bar. Anyone that is interested in going should talk to Tom Wills (twills@ameristaragency.com). Please check out their web site www.lakewoodsresort.com. Looks like 55+ people are going. Should be a fun ride.
Feb. 9th – 11th 2012 –Rendezvous Fairmont at the Holiday Inn- Keith Berndt is going to plan the “Mud Dog” ride to Fairmont this year- Leaving on Thursday Feb. 9th. The Mud Dogs is a creation of the late C.J. Ramstad, editor of Minnesota Snowmobiling, the official publication of Minnesota United Snowmobilers Assoc. About 20 yrs. ago C.J. started the Mud Dogs Ride to encourage snowmobilers from across the state to ride their snowmobiles to the MnUSA annual Winter Rendezvous. The idea of the ride is to show how strong snowmobiling is in the state of Minnesota. Each year, MnUSA snowmobilers begin from their chosen starting points and ride snowmobiles to the Winter Rendezvous. Over the years, the Mud Dogs motto “Press on Regardless” has taken root as sledder’s from across the state make the annual trek to the event.
Now as a part of Rendezvous, the Bent Skag traveling trophy is given to the group of riders who had the most interesting ride to the event. Those awarded the trophy get their names engraved on it and get to keep it until the following Winter Rendezvous when it is bestowed upon other Mud Dogs riders who had the most interesting ride that year. Our own Dave Hasbrouck and crew won this award in 2008.
Registration and lodging information for this popular winter event can be found at http://mnsnowmobiler.org/index.php?pageid=600 or http://myblizzardclub.com/2012%20Rendezvous.htm
I was asked to check on the rooms at Fairmont for the Rendezvous in February and did so.
These are the rooms that are remaining at the Holiday Inn as of Sunday October 30th.
1) 15 (2) double beds overlooking pool, 15 (2) double NOT looking over pool, a “few” kings
The price for all three room styles is $99.99 plus tax with cancelation up to 6pm day of arrival. The phone number to the Holiday Inn is 507-238-4771 (this is where the event takes place) other hotels in the area are…Comfort Inn 507-238-5444, Hampton Inn 507-235-2626, and Hall Lake Cabins 507-235-9785, Super 8 Motel 507-238-9444 and the Budget Inn 507-235-3373
Keep in mind our club intends to ride down as “Mud Dogs” this year and have had a lot of great interest in doing so from many members and members from other clubs to ride with us. You will want to get registered with the event also, so see the Mnusa website for more info and to gain access to the registration form. If you are interested in “Mud Dogging” with us, or would like more info on any of the above, please call Chuck at 952-913-8121.

Many of you should be familiar with the trails in this area because this is about 15 miles south of where we used to stay in Carlton on our trip a few years ago. It is only about 2 hours north of the cities and there are many trails to choose from for your entire family’s riding ability. More info at the meeting from Jerry.

OLD BUSINESS
Membership Drive- Once again, this our last chance to renew our membership through our “Membership Drive”. Of course we can sign you up all year long but we like to get our roster current by the end of December every year. Please take advantage of this on Wednesday night. THANKS !!!
We’ve said it before, we all know someone who is a snowmobiler out there who doesn’t belong to a club. If they choose not to belong to our local club, enlighten them on the importance of being a part of MnUSA. We need to get members to get involved with helping to keep this club strong. Too many snowmobilers who are not part of a club, unfortunately, do not realize the importance of being a member. For that reason it is our job as members of MnUSA to get out and spread the word. Remember that MnUSA is built on volunteers just like our club. It operates on volunteers!
Also, have you yet considered signing up as an Xtra Miler member? Donate an extra $30.00 per season towards Mnusa directly. Last season, our membership numbers at Mnusa have begun to grow but are not back to where they were in the haydays. (Snowdays for you) We are looking to pick up some more Business Members and Business Sponsors as well for Mnusa. These members are most often those who are able to benefit from snowmobilers throughout the year and are willing to donate $50.00 or $100.00 to our organization to help it be strong. If you see a business you think prospers from snowmobiling, consider approaching them and seeing if they are not members already. If so, thank them. If not, offer to sign them up.
2012 Mnusa Raffle Calendars: They are here and ready to go. This will be your last chance to get one at our meeting. Remember, these make great gifts for your snowmobile friends. Just $20 for 364 chances to win. There are many great prizes throughout the year. Help support Mnusa and Sno Trails Inc. by purchasing one for you or selling them at work. More info please call Chuck at 952-913-8121.
Website update: Is ready and should be launched here shortly- Dave H update.

We had a pretty good turnout with a few new members as well as a prospective one and even some we don’t get to see very often anymore. The weather cooperated and the food was great. We were able to fire up all of the safety sleds so that they will be ready for the tests on November 19th at Canterbury Park. There was plenty of time to sit around the bon fire and talk snowmobile. There was discussion on getting together out at Kim’s to put together more signs in November, so stay in tuned for more on that. Pictures can be found on our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/River-Valley-Trailblazers-Snowmobile-Club/106041322793437

Amsoil-There are a few of you who have not yet picked up your oil. It’s gonna snow and you’ll have no oil. You need to call Chuck and get this arranged soon. You know who you are.
Take this into consideration…You save $11 every time you buy a gallon of oil based on our price verses Fleet Farm prices. Many of you buy 4 gallons or more. Many others of you should. Isn’t that reason enough to join a snowmobile club? Add to that your savings at the Mnusa level if you are using ANY of your benefits from participating dealers or hotels. MAN!!! It’s like we pay YOU to belong to the club!!!
Now go tell your friends what we just said, so we can pay them to belong too.
Membership Drive- Beginning at the October 12th meeting we have started to push our membership again. We would like to ask you now to please renew at next month’s meeting so that Dave Wolf can get all of the paper work in to MnUSA at once. This is your chance to bring your buddies to meet your friends from the club. By the middle of December we would like to have a current roster to share with the club.
Website update: Is ready and should be launched here shortly.

Jan. 21st Meet and Greet:-Thank you Tim P for stepping up to take on this project. At the Mnusa Spring Meeting in Brainerd we decided to create a project that all clubs in the state would be asked to participate in. This project helps clubs like ours and Mnusa that are responsible for over 20,000 miles of trails be noticed by many who never knew where trails came from. Generating membership is the number one most important thing to helping keep these trail systems in the condition they are in for so many to have great riding just outside of your doorstep. Please come forward with any questions or comments on this task. We need to continue with projects like these to get snowmobilers to appreciate the trail system they have to ride on. We will be asking for volunteers to help us on this day again so please put it on your calendar.

Feb. 9th – 11th 2012 –Rendezvous Fairmont at the Holiday Inn- Keith Berndt is going to plan the "Mud Dog" ride to Fairmont this year. Over the years, the Mud Dogs motto "Press on Regardless" has taken root as sledder’s from across the state make the annual trek to the event.
15 (2) double beds overlooking pool, 15 (2) double NOT looking over pool, a "few" kings
Keep in mind our club intends to ride down as "Mud Dogs" this year and have had a lot of great interest in doing so from many members and members from other clubs to ride with us. You will want to get registered with the event also, so see the Mnusa website for more info and to gain access to the registration form. If you are interested in "Mud Dogging" with us, or would like more info on any of the above, please call Chuck at 952-913-8121.
Day rides/local rides-The past season we had many great club rides. It is not too soon for YOU to begin thinking of next seasons ride. Start looking at the calendar and map and come up with some ideas so we can schedule by October and still find some great accommodations and reasonable rates. Think of some cabins or resorts you thought would be accommodating for our club.
-Steve Blake is organizing a ride out of Houston the weekend of January 27-29? Plans are being made at Loken’s Sawmill Inn and Suites. There website is at http://sawmillinnandsuites.com/ and they seem very accommodating. More info to follow.

OLD BUSINESS
Shakopee Derby Days Family Fun Park Update: I have working Steve Blake, Amanda & Alainah Blake, Tim Pommier, Mike Ferraro, Tracy Schrepfer (and how many friends?), Kim Werkmeister, David Hasbrouck (part of the time), Woody Johnson (part of the time), Heather Berndt, Chuck and Sandy Doherty, David, Lisa and Samantha Dunbar, Jim and Christine Joyce, Brian Lee, Ron and Mary Radke (possibly Beth). Thanks for all the support. We need a minimum of 16 to 20 people. Right now we have 17. If anybody else would like to volunteer let me know. They changed the location. The old location is under water. It is still held downtown Shakopee at Huber Park, but by the Band Stand. You can park downtown and cross 1st street to the park. The Fun Park opens at 5:00, so please try and get there as close to 4:45 as possible. Wear your RVTB shirts. We are having a blowout sale $5.00 for a Grey T-shirt. I have M, L, XL and XXL left over. Let me know if anybody needs one and I will bring it to the park. Remember your kids are welcome to come and jump when lines aren’t long. What a perk!!
Shakopee Derby Days Parade Update: Friday Night starting at 6:00 pm - ? is our float decorating party at the Doherty residents. Theme this year is "Fairy Land". I'm thinking a "Snow Fairy" will do. So the float will be decorated with hanging snowflakes. Tim Pommier is nice enough to let us use his trailer. Tim, when would you like to drop that off? Also, I'm looking for small, medium and large sleds. Does anybody have a kitty kat? Dave Hasbrouck can we use your medium sled again? Who wants to supply the large sled this year? I'm looking for a new sled if possible. Might even consider an Arctic Cat if it's the last sled on earth (hahah). Hot dogs, chips and beverages will be supplied by the club.
This year the parade start has been moved to Sweeney Elementary. It will still begin at 1:30pm as it has in the past. Staging is now at Sweeney School to Lion's Park and we plan on bringing the float at 11:00 am. We are in Section B, Number 24. Anybody who wants to participate should be there around 12:30- 1:00 at the latest. We are in desperate need of candy throwers. Who is coming?
Amsoil- OK, we are ready to move on this. Jim is going to take our order home with him from the September meeting and will be ordering on the first of October. With any luck, we will have the oil by the October 12th meeting. We will be placing ONE order this season like we did last year. Order at least as much as you think you need, and then a little more. We plan on rounding the order up a little bit and that’s it. We will not be sitting on much oil like we have in the past so please put some thought in to what you will need. (oil will not get old on your shelf !) As in the past we have offered this to the Savage and Prior Lake clubs too.
Membership Drive- Have you yet considered signing up as an Xtra Miler member?
Meet and Greet:-We have been talking about having our "Meet and Greet" in December for this season but in order to align it with the Mnusa state wide Meet and Greet have decided to move it to the Saturday January 21st. The committee will be forming at our August meeting.
Update Trail from Memorial Park to Ace Trailer: Dave Hasbrouck has been following up on this for us and is just one bridge away from getting it done. How are things going on the Savage end to connect with us?
Website update: Will start working on this again in Sept.
NEW BUSINESS
State Fair Booth: Each year Mnusa asks us to help out at the State Fair booth both setting up and operating it. This year we would like to try and get our club members to pick a whole day and man the booth ourselves. Although we are looking at the Labor Day weekend at this time, we are still open to suggestions and wherever Nancy Hanson feels we need the most help. The booth hours are from 9am until 9pm and the shifts are in 4 hour increments. We would need to see a minimum of 2 people per shift. Working in the booth will allow you free admission to the fair as well. We will talk about this in detail at the meeting so we would like to see you there.
SnoBaron Tickets- are back!! Chuck has picked up 2000 tickets for the SnoBarons raffle. Buy your chance to win 1 of 4 snowmobiles. $1 tickets are good gifts or just a good way to help support your snowmobile clubs. Chuck will have them at the meeting on Aug. 10th. The winners will be drawn at Hay Days in September. More info at the meeting or upon request. We will consider prizes for the biggest sellers of tickets at the meeting as well. If you’re not interested in selling them for our club, please consider purchasing some for your chance to win and your chance to donate 85% back to our club. We would really like to sell all of the tickets this year.
MNSEAF: Would we like to consider donating from our club to Mnseaf to help support the veterans ride and the other projects it helps fund? We’ve talked about his in the past a bit, but would like to make some decisions on it at this next meeting. For those of you who are not aware, this is an entity created to allow us at Mnusa to better handle donations that we receive and get the most out of them. Its biggest and most successful event in its 3 year existence is the Veterans Ride that is held each year. Please attend the next meeting for more information. If you are a veteran this may be something you would like to participate in as well.
CLUB TRIPS/GET TOGETHERS
Breakfast anyone-The Saturday after the meeting is now "RVTB Breakfast day". Watch your e-mail Friday night for the update as to where we will meet. You are always welcome to call for more info.
We’ll decide at the meeting where to go for this month. If anyone would like to throw together a time and place in our RVTB area we would be happy to hook up and meet there as well. Let Chuck know of your ideas.
MnUSA 2011 Summer Campout July 8th – 10th: We had a relatively small turn out this summer but were able to accomplish what needed to be done. Thanks to the couple of families from our club who came done and participated in this event with us (Sandy and Chuck, Michelle and Steve, Ann and Jerry). There was time to enjoy the Cannon River in inner tubes along with about ˝ million others on the hot Saturday. Look forward to next summer’s campout!
Land Owners Appreciation Dinner: Again the Land Owners Picnic was held on the Sunday of campout. Other than running out of food really early this year due to the record amount of attendees, I think anyone would say it was a huge success again. Official count was over 500 at the check in tent. Kim, are you sure you didn’t confuse this with the bun order!! That’s nearly 200 more than an average turnout for this event. Although the attendance was great we were still missing our local representation which is something we need to begin working on for the future in order to maintain our great relationship with them.
July 18th 6:15 PM: Terry Hutchinson has been honored at the Prior Lake City Council meeting on July 18th for is contributions to SnoTrails, Mnusa and ACSA award. This has now been officially considered Terry Hutchinson day in Prior Lake. For those of you who aren’t aware of who Terry is, he has an extensive history of volunteer work in the Prior Lake area as well as the county and state level. If you aren’t active in the club, you may not know him. If you ride a snowmobile, you have been affected by him. We need more volunteers like him so consider stepping up a level.
Jordan Heimatfest September 10th: Parade start time is 11:00 am. More info to come as we get it. We need candy throwers and walkers. If interested- contact Dave Wolf. We will be meeting by the car wash in Jordan as we always do. So far we have David and Savanah and Chuck WHO ELSE???
Hay Days Sept. 10th – 11th: 38400 Oriole Avenue, North Branch, MN. 55056. They have discount camping passes for Sept. 9, 10 and 11th- $135.00. Deadline is Aug. 31st to get your discount. Contact Michelle at 651-434-9226 if interested. Sell those tickets…
Sept. 17th- Farmington Sno-Tiger’s Winter Blast Swap Meet and Dealer Expo 10 am to 6 pm: For Swap Meet and Dealer Info Go to www.farmingtonsnotigers.com, or contact Mark Tutewohl @ 612-363-2327
Oct.21st -23rd –Mnusa Fall Workshop-Otsego/Elk River-Looking for speakers on a variety of topics to help educate clubs on things such as safety or grooming. This is a way for clubs to share ideas that have worked for them in the past with other clubs. This is right in our backyard and we would like to see some participation from club members that would like to see more of what goes on at our quarterly meetings with Mnusa. Carpooling seems like a real good idea. Steve Rasmussen has been signed up for giving a speech on how to properly nominate a club member as an E-board officer and volunteer other people’s time productively. Thanks Steve, you did a fantastic job at the campout once again!
Safety Training Classes Nov. 3rd, 8th, 10th and the 15th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Shakopee Middle School. Please pay close attention to these dates. They have been altered a bit due to conflict in scheduling. The first night of class will be held on a Thursday. If you want to sign up your kids, contact Shakopee Community Education. Please keep in mind that Kim will need your help on the dates above. Some of you have already offered your help others were talking of it. Please take the time to call Kim and ask what it is you can help him with in order to insure another successful safety class season. He may be reached at 445-1199.
Safety Driving Test Nov. 19th Testing will begin, most likely at about 9am and run until about noon. These times will be updated as we get closer to the date based on class size. It will be held again in the overflow parking near our Park and Ride at Canterbury Park in Shakopee.
-Steve Blake is organizing a ride out of Houston the weekend of January 27-29. Plans are being made at Loken’s Sawmill Inn and Suites. There website is at http://sawmillinnandsuites.com/ and they seem very accommodating. More info to follow.
Treasure Report:-Hopefully we will see Dave Wolf at our next meeting. He has not been able to make it the last 2 months which is not his style at all. Dave is responsible for the checkbook and submitting membership paper work to Mnusa. He does a fantastic job with it and we never find the time to stop and say thanks. Thanks again for all you do for our club Dave, it is appreciated and does not go unnoticed.
Club Apparel: We are having a blowout sale $5.00 for a Grey T-shirt. I have M, L, XL and XXL left over. Remember we have tons of t-shirts (short sleeve-tan, yellow, light grey, dark grey and black).
